One Injured in San Antonio Collision

Man critically injured after crashing stolen vehicle at a San Antonio, Texas intersection.

About the Automobile Accident

According to the San Antonio Express-News, at around 7 p.m. on Monday evening, a man stole a truck from a North Side parking lot. He crashed at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Huebner Road.

The crash wrecked six cars, leaving the intersection closed for several hours and the driver of the vehicle critically injured.

An undercover detective initially spotted the man stealing the truck and began to follow him, but the suspect was not trying to speed away from the officer when the accident occurred.

On impact, the 28-year-old suspect was ejected form the vehicle and several other people sustained minor injuries. The suspect will face several charges upon his recovery.

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,534 people were killed in auto accidents in Texas in 2014 – a 3.7-percent increase over the 3,408 deaths recorded in 2013.
  • Of those killed in 2014, 823 were killed in accidents that occurred at or in  relation to an intersection.
  • An additional 237,941 people were injured in auto accidents in 2014 with 17,152 people suffering incapacitating injuries.
  • On average a reportable crash occurred in Texas every 66 seconds in Texas.
