One Killed, One Injured in Single Vehicle Accident in Florida

One person was killed along the Florida Turnpike in an accident that happened early Monday morning.

Details about the Fatal Accident

NBC Miami is reporting that a single-vehicle accident that happened on the Florida Turnpike early on Monday morning resulted in the death of one person and the injury of another.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, troopers responded to the scene of the accident just after 3:30 a.m. along the southbound lanes of the Turnpike at Exit 49B, near Hollywood. The vehicle went off the road, down an embankment, and then flipped after it hit a concrete drain.

The driver, who has been identified as 22-year-old Jamal Rodney, of Sunrise, was not wearing a seatbelt, and was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. His 28-year-old passenger was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition at this time.

Speed is likely a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol at this time.
