Details about the Single-Vehicle Accident

WCTI12 News is reporting that a man from the Washington area was killed in a single-vehicle accident that happened just north of the city.

A press release from the North Carolina Department of Public Safety has indicated that the accident happened at about 9:46 a.m. on the Mill Road, just off US Highway 17 North. The victim, who the family requested not be named, apparently lost control of the vehicle after the right side tires ran off the road after he over-steered the vehicle when the car traveled back onto the road. The man crossed the center line, attempted to regain control of the vehicle and then ran off the road to the left, before hitting a water-filled ditch and a tree.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident due to his injuries.

No charges are being filed at this time, but police believe that both speed and unsafe tires were factors in the accident.
