Osha Investigates American Fork Construction Accident

Officials have launched an investigation into a crane accident that left one person dead in American Fork last Wednesday.

About the American Fork Crane Accident

According to the Daily Herald, a young construction worker was killed on his job when a crane toppled over, crashing into the wall which in turn crushed the man.

The American Fork Fire Department is currently labeling this incident as a workplace accident and hasn't released any identification of the worker. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is in charge of the investigation. 

There were no other injuries reported in connection with the accident.

Construction Accident Statistics

The following information was provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):

  • In 2014, 4,679 workers were fatally injured while on the job. This averages to roughly 90 deaths a week or more than 13 deaths each day.
  • Of those deaths, 4,251 occurred in private industry with 874 deaths being linked to construction accidents.
  • Among the leading causes of deaths recorded in construction in 2014 were:
    • Falls
    • Electrocutions
    • Struck by object
    • Caught-in/between
