Pearsall Officer Killed in Head-On Collision

head-on collision in Atascosa County has left a South Texas police officer dead and two people in critical condition.

About the South Texas Crash

According to KIII-TV, the collision occurred Sunday on Highway 97 about 5 miles west of Jourdanton.

Officer Michael Villarreal, 51, was transporting a 15-year-old boy to a juvenile facility when a pickup collided with his patrol car.

Villarreal was killed in the collision. The teenager and the driver of the pickup were both transported to a San Antonio hospital where they were listed in critical condition.

Authorities are working to determine the cause of the collision.
