Pedestrian Accident Kills Man 50 Years Later

Abi Reyes1 year ago

Accordign to FOX News, a Pennsylvania man has died from injuries sustained in a car accident 50 years ago.

About the Pedestrian Accident

On July 8, 1965, 8-year-old Richard Albright was struck by a car in Pennsylvania in a pedestrian accident. He survived but suffered from broken legs, a head injury, and several cuts and bruises.

Albright never fully recovered from the accident. First Deputy Coroner Eric Minnich said Albright was left paralyzed from his injuries and “required a lifetime of treatment.” Mannich added, “This is something that he never achieved a full recovery from. He was still receiving treatment for injuries received 50 years earlier.”

50 years later on Aug. 24, 2015, Albright died from these injuries. He was 58 years old. Minnich says it is rare but not unheard of for injuries from an accident to cause death after several years.

Pedestrian Safety and Statistics

  • According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there is one crash-related pedestrian death every 2 hours and a pedestrian injury every 7 minutes.
  • This means that pedestrians are almost twice as likely to die from a car crash, than vehicle occupants.
  • Pedestrians can help prevent injuries and deaths from motor vehicle crashes by: increasing their visibility at night, wearing reflective clothing, and legally crossing the street using a designated crosswalk.
