Details about Fatal Accident Involving Amtrak Train

Multiple sources are reporting that a man was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train while walking along the railroad tracks in a suburb of Albuquerque.

According to police, the train hit and killed the man on Tuesday afternoon. Amtrak indicated that the man who was hit by the train was trespassing along the tracks and that there were no reported injuries of any of the train’s crew or the 142 passengers on board at the time of the accident.

The train has been identified as Amtrak’s westbound Southwest Chief, which heads from Chicago to los Angeles.

Spokeswoman Chelsea Kopta indicated that the accident delayed the train for a little over two hours. Several other trains were also delayed as a result of the accident. An investigation into the circumstances of the accident remains ongoing.
