Pedestrian Killed Crossing Texarkana State Line

A man was struck and killed trying to cross the state line in Texarkana.

Information about the Pedestrian Accident

According to Texarkana Today, 53-year-old Jimmy Wayne Kent of Foreman, Arkansas was hit and killed while attempting to cross State Line Avenue north of Sugar Hill Road on Friday evening, reports Texarkana, Arkansas Police Public Information Officer Kristi Bennett.

The Texarkana Police and Fire emergency crews were sent out just after 6 p.m. on Friday after they received reports of a major accident involving a pedestrian.

According to Police Public Information Officer Bennett, Jimmy Wayne Kent was hit by a 2004 Yukon that was being driven by a single female and was headed north on Highway 71.

Jimmy Wayne Kent was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Bennett, his death was an accident, and no charges will be issued to the driver of the Yukon.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association:

  • There were 4,735 pedestrian fatalities in the United States in 2013.
  • From January-June of 2013, Arkansas had 23 pedestrian fatalities. From January-June of 2014, Arkansas has 14 pedestrian fatalities, down 9 fatalities from the same time period in the previous year.
  • As was the case in this accident, in 2013, 70 percent of pedestrian death occur between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
