Destiny Baker3 years ago

Pennsylvania motorist John Leck Jr., 47, has been sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison for the drunk driving death of a Philadelphia police officer.

About the Drunk Driving Accident

  • According to an ABC affiliate, John Leck of Levittown, Pennsylvania had been drinking at a TGI Fridays on July 8, 2012 before getting behind the wheel of his Audi A6 sedan and traveling the wrong direction on Interstate 95.
  • Authorities estimate that Leck was traveling 65 mph when he collided head on with Philadelphia Police Officer Brian Lorenzo, 48, who was traveling at a speed of 68 mph on his Highway Patrol motorcycle.
  • The crash threw Lorenzo 21 feet and pushed his motorcycle 130 feet. Lorenzo was killed instantly.
  • Approximately 45 minutes after the crash, it was determined that Leck had a blood-alcohol level of .218 – nearly three times the legal limit.

  • In October, Leck pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, homicide by motor vehicle while driving intoxicated and driving under the influence.
  • Though the prosecution pushed for prison sentence of 15 to 30 years, it was instead decided that Leck would serve 10 to 20 years in prison followed by an additional 10 years of probation.
  • Lorenzo’s family currently has a pending suit against TGI Fridays and Leck.
