Police Chase Ends with School Bus Crash

A Dallas chase ended when a suspect hit a school bus.

Details about the School Bus Accident

WFAA News is reporting that a police chase ended on Thursday afternoon the when the suspects’ vehicle collided with a school bus in the northeast part of Dallas.

According to a Mesquite police spokesperson, the chase began at a Fairfield Inn and Suites on the 4000 block of Towne Crossing Boulevard in Mesquite at around 2:15 p.m. on Thursday. The spokesperson said the suspects were wanted for credit card fraud at the hotel.

At this point in the investigation, the suspects have not been identified by the authorities. The suspects collided with a Dallas ISD school bus at the intersection of Skillman Street and Abrams Road at around 3:15 p.m.

Two male suspects were taken into custody at the scene of the accident and another female suspect was arrested later at the hotel.

There were about 60 students on the bus at the time of the accident, and there were no reports of serious injuries to any of the children.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there are hundreds of wrongful deaths every year that can be attributed to school-transportation accidents:

  • During the time from 2003-2012, about 174 school-age children were killed in school-transportation-related accidents.
  • During the same time period, there were a total of 1,353 school-transportation fatalities – an average of about 135 fatalities per year in total.
  • Most of the people who were killed in such accidents were the occupants of other vehicles at the time of the accident.
