Police Investigating Fatal Industrial Accident
About the Milwaukee Construction Accident
According to 620-WTMJ, 30 year-old Stephen Rauth was killed around 1:30 am Thursday after being crushed by heavy equipment.
Rauth was making repairs to a concrete mixing tower at a cement and construction business called Nuvo.
Staffers attempted to contact Rauth via radio, but received no response. Shortly after, a supervisor found the man pinned under a machine.
Rauth leaves behind a wife and three small children ages 11, 7, and 2.
National Construction Accident Statistics
Following information provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):
- 4,628 workers were killed on the job in 2012. This is equivalent to 89 deaths a week or more than 12 deaths a day.
- 4,175 fatalities were recorded in private industry and, of those, 806 or 19.3 percent occurred in the construction industry.
- The most common causes for worker deaths at construction sites were falls, struck by object, electrocution, and caught –in/between.
