Portage Woman Faces Charges After Fleeing Scene of Accident

A Portage woman faces charges after police report that she was driving while intoxicated and left the scene of a head-on collision which left one person suffering minor injuries, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Details about the Portage Head-On Collision

At around 9:10 a.m. on Tuesday police were called to the intersection of Willowcreek Road and Houston Avenue to respond to a hit-and-run accident. They were further informed that the suspected vehicle continue north on Willowcreek before fleeing west on Houston Avenue.

36-year-old Teresa Chillemi of Portage has been charged with two misdemeanor counts related to driving while intoxicated and another account for leaving the scene of an accident.

Witnesses report that Chillemi was traveling south on Willowcreek when she went into the northbound lanes and hit a car, pushing it into a PCACS bus behind it.

No passengers were on the bus at the time of the accident and the bus driver was not injured.

Police found Chillemi at the entrance to a Denny’s restaurant on Crisman Road. Chillemi told police that she was unaware that she was even involved in an accident and that she must have blacked out.

Toxicology reports showed the presence of cannabinoid, THC, and benzodiazepine. Chillemi was taken to Porter County Jail.
