Portage Woman Identified as Pedestrian Accident Victim

Police have identified a pedestrian who was killed in an accident in Gary as a woman from Portage.

Details about the Fatal Pedestrian Accident

Multiple sources are reporting that a pedestrian who was hit and killed by a vehicle on East Melton Road has been identified as a woman from Portage.

37-year-old Amy Tucker died from blunt force trauma in a motor vehicle accident, according to the lake County coroner’s office. Police from Gary say they responded to the scene of an accident on the 4100 block of East Melton Road in the Miller section of the city at about 5:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

The victim was originally identified by police as a 36-year-old woman from Gary, but did not release her name until her family was notified of the accident. Amy Tucker was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

No charges are expected to be filed in the accident, and toxicology reports are still pending as of Monday, according to police Lieutenant Thomas Pawlak.
