Zydelig Clinical Trials

Gilead Halts Zydelig Trials After Patient Deaths

Gilead has halted six clinical trials analyzing the safety and efficacy of the cancer-drug Zydelig following a string of adverse events and patient deaths.

FEDERAL REGULATORS LAUNCH REVIEW OF ZYDELIG

According to reports, both the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have launched independent reviews of the drug in response to the increased rate of serious adverse events.

Zydelig is currently approved in the U.S. and Europe to treat certain forms of blood cancer. However, several of the halted trials were using Zydelig in unapproved drug combinations, and other trials included patients with disease characteristics not covered by the drug’s label.

Regulators are still gathering evidence on the adverse events suffered by clinical trial participants, but they have noted that many of the clinical trial deaths were driven by a rise in infections.
