About the Arizona Prison Bus Crash

A violent two-vehicle crash in Arizona involving an overturned semi-truck and a bus carrying 50 minimum-security prisoners sent 22 to the hospital, reports Reuters.  The bus driver and two inmates were seriously injured.

The crash took place about 100 miles south of Phoenix on Interstate 8 when a semi-truck overturned while trying to “avoid an animal that had darted onto the roadway,” said Bart Graves, a spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety. At 1 a.m., when inmates were returning to the prison from a work detail, the prison bus plowed into the truck that had overturned in the westbound lanes of the highway.

Authorities said all uninjured inmates remained at the scene of the crash and were transported back to prison without incident.
