Recalls from General Motors at a Record Pace

Tina Robinson2 years ago

Since announcing a massive recall in February for roughly 2.6 million vehicles with defective ignition switches, General Motors has been adding new recalls at a record-setting pace. The automaker has already recalled more cars this year than it ever has in one year with a total of 18,884,842 vehicles recalled.

According to a USA Today report, there are several reasons for the seemingly non-stop recall announcements. As part of an agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), GM has agreed to extensive oversight for at least the next year. GM CEO Mary Barra has also made it a priority to fix any potential issues to avoid further injuries as well as bad publicity. And of course, investors want any potential safety issues taken care of to help preserve profits.

Experts disagree on how the ubiquitous recall announcements will affect General Motors in the long-run. Some say the constant negative press will drive away potential buyers; others suggest that such frequent announcements have made it a “non-event” for most people.
