Reduce Child Injury Risk by Babyproofing
Researchers at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center have found that properly installing and maintaining child safety devices in the home reduces the risk for child injury by 70 percent.
The study consisted of two groups of families with newborns. One family had proper child safety devices installed in their home. After two years, the study showed that the children living in these homes had 70 percent fewer injuries than the children who had no safety devices installed.
The study’s lead researcher, Dr. Kieran J. Phelan said in a medical news release, “The home environment is the most common location of injury for younger children. However, parents may not have the time, training or resources to obtain and install the best safety products.”
With this information, the International Association for Child Safety is encouraging parents to consider hiring a professional babyproofer to install the appropriate products.
The IAFCS is a network of professionals and babyproofers who specialize in child safety products, maintenance and advice. The organization is the only certification program available for Certified Professional Childproofers®.
Whether or not parents decide to install safety devices in their home themselves or decide to hire an expert babyproofer, visit the IAFCS (www.iafcs.org) website for safety tips and advice.
