Regulators Consider Expanding Hyundai Airbag Recall

Destiny Baker3 years ago

Federal regulators have announced a possible expansion of March’s Hyundai recall to include an additional 52,000 vehicles.

About the Hyundai Elantra Recall

According to the New York Daily News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened a recall query into 2009-2012 Elantra Touring models.

The agency became concerned after finding that nearly 52,000 of the vehicles have a design flaw similar to that of 186,254 2011-2013 Elantra sedans recalled in March.

The NHTSA reports that both the Hyundai Elantra and Hyundai Elantra Touring are equipped with a metal support bracket that is attached to the headliner.

According to the agency, the support bracket can detach and strike passengers should the side curtain airbag deploy during a collision.
