Repeat DUI Offender Charged In Deadly Pedestrian Accident

In Memphis, a woman has been charged in a fatal hit and run accident with a pedestrian.

Details about the Fatal Pedestrian Accident 

According to Local Memphis News, 55-year-old Linda Cartwright has a history of DUI charges. Police report that Cartwright hit a pedestrian and failed to stop and attend to the victim as she sped off in her vehicle. A witness description enabled police to locate a trailer park where Cartwright approached police officers and apologized. The incident took place at approximately 10:30PM on Thursday, June 16th 2016. This was on East Brooks Road and Coughlin Drive, which is located just west of the airport. Linda Cartwright admitted that she struck the victim and then got scared and drove off.


When asked to take a breathalyzer, Cartwright refused but police say that she appeared to be intoxicated. WREG News adds that Cartwright also refused to submit to a blood alcohol test. Police records point out that Cartwright was not a first time offender. She has a total of seven other DUI convictions. 

Cartwright has several other charges against her including DUI and aggravated vehicular homicide.

The victim has not yet been formally identified.
