Respected Montgomery Officer Killed by Drunk Driver

Emily Pitts12 months ago

A recent car accident that left a Montgomery Police Officer dead has been described as a “preventable” tragic loss.

The Driver had been Drinking

Louis Gustavo Reluzco, 47, had reportedly been drinking at a Hooters on Rockville Pike, four hours before the fatal accident.

Officers say that immediately after the accident, Reluzco was unable to stand steadily and told the officer, “My balance won’t let me do it, probably because I drank too much.”

Reluzco had a history of drunk driving with two previous DUI charges in 1988 and 1990. He had also smoked marijuana before the accident.

Officer Was Well-Respected

Officer Noah Leotta, 24, had been working another DUI incident when Reluzco’s car hit him on the way back to his cruiser. He died later at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda after his family and doctors decided to remove him from life support.

He is survived by his parents, sister, and other relatives.

The investigation has not yet lead to charges, but this could change once the blood sample to test Reluzco’s alcohol level is returned.
