Salmonella Reports in Tuna Recall
Osamu Corporation, a food service company, is recalling their Frozen Yellow Fin Tuna Chunk Meat product after two reported illnesses linked to Salmonella.
About the Salmonella Outbreak and Osamu Tuna Recall
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Osamu Corporation of California has recalled their “Frozen Yellow Fin Tuna” (Lot #68568) product. This specific product was sold to AFC Corporation and recently has been linked to two Salmonella illnesses associated with sushi sold in the Minnesota area.
Minnesota’s Department of Health found several samples of the product to be contaminated with Salmonella, which causes severe illnesses and possible fatalities.
Both Osamu and AFC Corporations have advised consumers who have purchased any sushi products containing Frozen Yellow Fin Tuna Chunk meat, to either dispose of the product or visit the store where the purchase took place for a full refund.
Description of the Recalled Tuna
The following information was provided by the FDA:
- The recall covers Frozen Yellow Fin Tuna Chunk Meat with the lot number #68568
- The recalled tuna was used in AFC sushi – the sushi was sold in grocery stores with clear lids
- The contaminated product was shipped to AFC between 5-20-15 and 5-26-15
