San Antonio Brush Collection Truck Catches Fire

Officials are investigating a commercial vehicle accident that resulted in a fire on San Antonio’s Southside on Wednesday.

About the San Antonio Brush Truck Fire

According to KENS 5, a brush collection truck owned by the City of San Antonio caught fire after striking an electrical wire. The incident occurred in the 800 block of Cantrell Drive, near Commercial Avenue.

CPS Energy was called to cut power to the area. Crews then worked to extinguish the fire that had engulfed the brush being held in the back of the collection truck. Fortunately, the driver was able to escape without injury.

Police closed off the area while crews worked to clear the scene.

Downed Power Line Safety Tips

The following information was provided by Pacific Gas and Electric Company:

  • Always assume a downed power line is live.
  • Keep children and pets far away from fallen power lines.
  • Do not attempt to move the line, call 911.
  • Do not drive over downed lines.
  • If your care comes in contact with a downed line, stay in the vehicle. The ground around the car may be energized.
