San Antonio Drunk Driver Charged with Felony Murder

Arturo Noriega, 37, of San Antonio was charged with felony murder after pleading guilty to driving drunk that resulted in a fatal crash in 2011.

About the Drunk Driving Accident

According to San Antonio Express-News, Noriega ran a red light in his pick-up truck on U.S. 181 on Labor Day weekend, and crashed head on into Richard Casas’ Honda Accord.

Casas, 47, died later that day. The passenger side of his car was completely destroyed due to Noriega traveling extremely fast.

San Antonio Man Was a Habitual Drunk Driver

  • This is Noriega’s 4th DWI charge so prosecutors have charged him with felony murder rather than intoxication manslaughter.
  • Noriega’s blood test revealed an alcohol level of 0.246, 0.08 is the legal limit. He was also on cocaine and was described as hostile and cussing at emergency responders as well.
  • Accordig to county records, since implimenting of No Refusal Weekend Bexar county has recodred 5,637 DWI 1st offense (which includes: DWI 1st, DWI open container, and DWI blood alcohol content .15 and greater) arrests, 1,105 DWI 2nd offense arrests and 703 DWI arrests for 3rd offense or more as of 2013.
