With drunk driving offenses up in numbers again, a new driver service adopted by city council may help remedy the increasing number of felonies.

Recent Drunk Driving Felony Reports

The San Antonio Express-News has released data provided by law enforcement agencies addressing high numbers of drunk driving accidents and arrests.

For the month of July, 70 drunk driving felonies have been issued. Within the last few months, numbers have remained between 58-84 felonies per month. February is recognized the month with the least amount of felonies.

To date, there have been 486 drunk driving offenses for the Bexar County for 2015.

July felonies include:

  • Intoxication manslaughter: 1
  • Intoxication assault: 2
  • DWI with a child: 16
  • DWI solo or with a passenger: 51

Alternatives Available with City's Lyft Agreement

In April, San Antonio city council decided to ban driving services such as Uber and Lyft. Such services are used by consumers for rides to and from destinations – a reliable alternative to getting behind the wheel and putting the driver and surrounding drivers in danger.

As of August 7, 2015, city council made a deal with Lyft to bring back the service on a 9 month trial fee. At the moment, Uber has not commented about possibly doing the same according to San Antonio Express-News.
