Austin police have charged 24-year-old William Lawrence with intoxication manslaughter in connection with a fatal accident in southeastern Travis County that claimed the lives of two men.

About the Fatal Car Crash

According to the Austin American-Statesman, Lawrence was traveling east along Texas 71 around 10 pm on November 18 when he collided with a minivan underneath the Texas 130 overpass.

The impact caused the gas tank of the minivan to explode, leaving the vehicle engulfed in flames. The occupants of the minivan, 79-year-old Bobby Robert and 84-year-old Billy Robert of La Grange, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A blood sample was taken from Lawrence at University Medical Center Brackenridge which tested positive for the powerful hallucinogen, PCP.

During an interrogation, Lawrence claimed that he fell asleep behind the wheel.
