San Saba Man Killed in Shelby Co. Collision

A 44-year-old man from San Saba, Texas was fatally injured Monday when a minivan and 18-wheeler collided head-on in Shelby County.

About the Shelby County Accident

The fatal crash occurred on U.S. Highway 96, roughly 10 miles south of Center, around 12:05 am.

According to KLTV, 44-year-old Cory Dow Stovall was traveling northbound on U.S. 96 in a 2014 Dodge Caravan when he crossed the center line and struck a 2010 International tractor-trailer head-on.

The collision caused the 18-wheeler to catch fire – the driver of the truck, James Lee Fuller, 69, was not injured in the accident. Stovall, however, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both men were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. The accident is still under investigation.

  • Based on available crash data for 2013, TxDOT estimates:
    • One person was killed in an auto accident every 2 hours and 36 minutes.
    • One person was injured every 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 71 seconds.
