School Bus Accident Sends Mother, Two Sons to Hospital

Three people – including two children – have been taken to the hospital after the car they were in hit a school bus on Monday morning in Kansas City.

Details about the Accident Involving the School Bus

KMBC News in Kansas City is reporting that a woman and her two young children have been taken to an area hospital to be looked at after the SUV they were riding in was hit by a bus on Monday morning.

According to police, the accident happened just after 7 a.m. near the intersection of Southern Hills Driver and Myrtle, and the police believe that the school bus was turning when it hit the SUV that was stopped at the intersection.

The school bus is operated by the Apple Bus Company and had at least nine children on the bus at the time of the accident. Neither the driver nor the students were injured.

The driver of the SUV that was hit by the bus and her two young sons were all taken to an area hospital to be checked out just as a precaution.

  • Between 2003 and 2012, there were 89 crashes that killed at least one occupant of a school-transportation-vehicle.
  • From 2003 through 2012, 70 percent of school-age pedestrians fatally injured were hit by school buses or by vehicles that were functioning as school buses.
  • From 2003-2012 there were 1,222 fatal crashes involving school-transportation-related vehicles.
