School Bus Driver Facing DUI Charges

A school bus driver is facing DUI charges after an accident involving a school bus.

Details about the School Bus Accident

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph is reporting that a school bus driver from Tazewell County was charged on Monday with one count of felony child endangerment and one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence after he was involved in an early morning bus accident in North Tazewell.

According to Major Harold Heatley with the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened along Baptist Valley road at about 7:30 a.m. this morning. There were 12 students on the school bus at the time of the accident.

The operator of the school bus has been identified as Besty Hargrave of Tazewell. Hargrave was charged with one felony count of child endangerment and one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence. Additional charges are pending the completion of the investigation.

Heatley also stated that the Virginia State Police is conducting their own investigation into the accident due to the number of complaints that were processed. The State Police investigation is ongoing.

Aside from the accident between the school bus and the other vehicle, there may have been damage to other vehicles as well as property damage to mailboxes and fences in the area.
