Second Death at Argyle Construction Site

Construction at Argyle High School has once again been halted following the death of a worker. This is the second death to occur at the site in five days.

Details of the Fatal Accident

According to KERA News, Daniel Moran was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday morning as he was guiding a tractor-trailer at the Argyle job site.

Moran was part of a crew working to clear the debris from a steel framework collapse that occurred at the site list Thursday, claiming the life of Julio Ledesma-Perez.

Board members with the Argyle Independent School District have decided to hire a safety consultant as federal investigators have begun reviewing the two fatal accidents.

Construction Accident Statistics

The following information was provided by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA):

  • 4,405 people were killed on the job in 2013 – this averages to 85 deaths a week or more than 12 deaths per day.
  • 3,929 deaths were recorded in private industry, and 796 were attributed to construction accidents.
  • The leading causes of death at construction sites were:
    • Fall
    • Struck by object
    • Electrocution
    • Caught-in/between
