Sheboygan County authorities publicly announced on Monday, July 11, that a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred last week on Sunday, July 3, is now in the process of being investigated as a hit-and-run.

About the Fatal Sheboygan Hit-and-Run

Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Deputies, Orange Cross Ambulance, and Glenbeulah First Responders were dispatched to the scene of an accident following a 911 call to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center. This call was made shortly after 4:30a.m. The purpose of the call was to report that a vehicle struck a pedestrian on County Road P just north of County Road A, in the Town of Rhine.

According to FOX6 News, the initial investigation conveyed that when the van struck the pedestrian, it was southbound on County Road P. The van operator called law enforcement and remained at the scene of the incident.

However, further investigation disclosed that the 23-year-old victim, Shawn Kaufert of Sheboygan Falls, was already deceased when he was hit by the van.

Autopsy results revealed that the victim had been previously struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle. This vehicle left the scene after hitting Kaufert. The incident is still being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office.
