South Carolina Daycare Investigated after Child Injured
A Hardeeville, S.C. daycare is under investigation after a child sustained injuries earlier this year, according to WSPA News. Authorities have launched an investigation into Touched by an Angel Daycare after a toy allegedly fell on a baby’s face leaving her with cuts and bruises.
About the Daycare Accident
On May 30, Michael Wright says he was called by workers at the daycare to informed him that his three-month-old daughter Makenzie had a minor bruise on her nose from a toy falling on her. Wright says when he picked up his daughter later that day, he was horrified to see his daughter’s face cut, bruised, and swollen. Wright says further stories given by the daycare staff simply don’t add up.
Wright told reporters that a staff worker originally told him that she was present when the injury happened but later recanted the story. The daycare also told Wright that a doctor had checked Makenzie, which he later found to not be true.
According to the WSPA report, the daycare has nine complaints on file with the Department of Social Services (DSS) and has a “Level C” rating.
Daycare Abuse and Neglect
Each year, millions of parents rely on daycare centers to provide a safe environment for their children to play and grow. While daycare abuse or neglect isn’t something that happens at all daycare centers, it does happen.
According to Childwelfare.gov, in 2006 about 5,321 daycare providers were perpetuators of some form of child abuse. Of those numbers:
