Subaru Recalls Nearly 200,000 Vehicles for Brake Issue

Destiny Baker2 years ago

Subaru has issued a recall for 199,000 cars and sports utility vehicles to repair rusty brake lines that may leak brake fluid leading to longer stopping distances.

Details of the Subaru Recall

According to the Associated Press (AP) this is the second recall issued for the brake line issue.

Recall documents suggest salty water can splash on the brake lines through a gap in the fuel tank protector causing rust to build up and leaks. The previous recall failed to resolve the brake issue due to incomplete repair instructions being sent to dealers.

Subaru has stated that drivers will be alerted to brake line leaks by a light on the affected vehicles’ instrument panels. In the event of a leak, drivers will need to apply increased pressure to their vehicle's brake pedal to stop.

Vehicles Affected by the Subaru Recall

Models included in the recall are:

  • 2009-2013 Forester
  • 2008-2011 Impreza
  • 2008-2014 WRX
  • 2008-2014 WRX-STI

The recall is limited to vehicles that are registered or were originally sold in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Washington D.C.
