According to the San Antonio Express-News, police have arrested the man they suspect is resonsible for the hit-and-run death of fourth grader Tatyana Babineux.

Isidro Espinosa-Solis, 39, was taken into custody Friday, shortly after police obtained an arrest warrant and issued a statement asking for the public’s assistance in finding the fugitive.

San Antonio Police Investigate Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident

While no one saw the impact, multiple witnesses described the pickup, according to San Antonio police.

Authorities were able to make a break in the case after a tip was received just before midnight on Thursday indicating that truck involved in the pedestrian accident was at a house in the 100 block of Fay Avenue – the address is about 15 miles from the location of the accident.

The pickup was identified Friday as “a good possible match,” so detectives went to the house where they were given permission to enter the property. The people at the home told the police a good friend asked them to keep the pickup.

While no information was available on whether anyone at the house knew about the hit-and-run, the description of the Chevy Colorado had been widely circulated by media and police in the three days since the 9-year-old girl was struck as she crossed the northbound lanes of Braesview during her walk to school.

The fatality prompted SAPD to conduct an assessment of the area to see if there are any measures that can be taken to provide additional pedestrian safety.

Fugitive Charged and Arrested

  • Police named their suspect as Isidro Espinosa-Solis Friday night.
  • In a public release, the SAPD asked for the public’s assistance in finding the Espinosa-Solis, offering a $5,000 reward.
  • Just after 10 p.m., San Antonio authorities received reports that the suspect was in federal custody in Laredo.
  • Espinosa-Solis faces the charge of failure to stop and render aid.
