Suspect in Fatal Pedestrian Accident Identified

The suspect in a fatal hit-and-run in Albuquerque has been arrested.

KRQE News is reporting that Albuquerque Police had to shut down 2nd Street between Kinley Avenue and Aspen Avenue on Monday evening due to a fatal accident that happened involving a pedestrian.

According to Albuquerque Police, the accident was a hot-and-run, and that 76-year-old John Russell fled the scene of the accident. Russell’s vehicle was describes a small white or silver pickup truck with a New Mexico license plate.

Drivers were told to avoid the area on Monday evening while police conducted their investigation. Police report that they later located Russell, who admitted to being involved in the accident, although he said that he was unaware that he hit a person.

At this time, there is no word on the identity of the victim who was killed in the hit-and-run accident.
