Suspected Drunken Driving Crash Kills One and Injures Two

On Sunday, one man died and two other were seriously injured when the driver of car, alleged to be drunk, crashed into a tree in San Antonio, Texas.

About the Fatal San Antonio Accident

  • According to the San Antonio Express-News, Efrain Villanueva, 22, was driving with three passengers (Nestor Avalos, 22, Darien Delacruz, 22, and Hector Gomez, 18) when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree.
  • Avalos was killed while Delacruz and Gomez were seriously injured. Villanueva faces one count of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault in a wreck.
  • The accident occurred on the 2600 block General Hudnell Drive as Villanueva was traveling at a high rate of speed.
  • Witnesses say the car smelled of beer as a box of Bud Light was visible, along with a plastic bag of a green leafy substance and unmarked bottles containing pills. Villanueva’s bail is set at $90,000.

  • In 2013, Bexar County recorded a total of 7,649 drunk driving arrests.
  • This included 37 arrests for intoxication assaults and 15 arrests for intoxication manslaughter.
  • 5,637 of the DWI arrests were for first time offenses.
