Police have finished clearing the scene of an accident that involved an 18-wheeler and an SUV on Tuesday morning.

Details about the 18-Wheeler and SUV Accident

Traffic was backed on the Southwest Side of San Antonio on Tuesday morning after a car accident on Loop 410 involving an SUV and an 18-wheeler.

The San Antonio Express-News reports that, according to the San Antonio Police Department, the truck driver was headed north on Loop 410 near Ray Ellison Boulevard around 7:15 a.m. when he felt a bump on his trailer.

The trucker looked back into his mirror and saw the SUV wedged underneath his truck being dragged along the highway. Police are still investigating the accident, but early reports indicate the driver of the SUV had lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the tractor-trailer.

The driver of the SUV was taken to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers said that if the wheels of the truck had managed to roll over the SUV, the woman would have likely been killed.

Police had the scene of the accident clear around 8 a.m.
