Takata Launches Awareness Campaign Amid Airbag recalls

adriana_trevino1 year ago

The Detroit News reports that Takata has agreed to step up its focus on recall efforts as the company works with automakers and federal regulators to complete a massive airbag recall affecting millions of vehicles.

Takata Proposes Awareness Campaign

So far, eight deaths and more than 100 injuries have been linked to the faulty airbags which can rupture upon deployment, sending sharp metal shrapnel throughout vehicle cabins.

Over 32 million vehicles from 11 different automakers have been recalled in connection with the defective Takata airbags. Dealers are currently struggling to repair the vehicles amid a deficit of essential replacement parts.

Following pressure from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Takata has finally agreed to step up its recall efforts by increasing the production of replacement parts and urging all affected consumers to bring their vehicles in for repair.

An ad campaign proposed by Takata to NHTSA will feature the message “URGENT AIRBAR RECALL NOTICE: Does your airbag inflator need to be replaced?” The campaign will run online through various websites as well as on Takata’s own micro site, www.airbagrecall.com and television.

Takata also plans to work with insurance companies to ensure mailers are sent to consumers affected by the recall. This proposal is still pending approval by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
