A teenager was killed in a single vehicle accident that happened in the Augusta area.

Details about the Fatal Accident

WGME News is reporting that a 17-year-old was killed in an accident that happened on Route 17 in Augusta.

According to authorities, the single vehicle accident happened near the Togus area and closed a section of Route 17 for multiple hours that evening so crews could clear the scene of the accident and officials could conduct their preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident.

Augusta Police have stated that the driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Darrien Allard, of the Sidney area, was heading east when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, and made contact with a culvert on the side of the road.

A 17-year-old female passenger, who name has not been released at this time, was killed in the accident. The driver and two other passengers in the vehicle were taken to Maine General in Augusta to be treated for their injuries.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
