Teen Put on Life Support After Skateboarding Accident

A teenager has been put on life support after being invovled in an accident that happened in San Antonio.

Overview of the Accident

14-year-old Nadia Pastrano remains on life support after she was in a skateboarding accident that happened on Saturday night around 10:30 p.m.. The accident in San Antonio, Texas was located near Loop 1604 and Gold Canyon. Pastrano was skateboarding across the road when she was hit by a car. She was then taken to University Hospital and identified by her friends. Friends believe that Pastrano was on her way home when she was hit by the car. After the accident, the driver immediately stopped the car to provide aid to Pastrano, and is not facing any charges.

Skateboard Fatality Statistics

According to skatepark.org, in 2015, there were about two-dozen wrongful deaths of people invovled in skateboard accidents in the United States:

  • 26 confirmed deaths of skateboarders in the U.S. in 2015.
  • Average age of deaths: 20.
  • Youngest was 13 in Mineral Wells, TX along a rural road and another in L.A., CA at an intersection and with a parent.
