Teen Tour Guide Dies in Bus Accident
The teen was one of the 34 people aboard the modified school bus that transported customers for river tubing excursions.
About the Fatal Bus Accident
According to TWC News, Amelia Hirschfield and her brother Gerard were sitting next to each other on the bus, which they said was traveling at a high speed.
She said the driver was going really fast down a road when he went to take a sharp turn and the bus flipped on its side. The bus was stopped from going down a cliff and into a body of water after hitting a tree.
Second Assistant Fire Chief Douglas Olson said these types of accidents do not happen often and that it was the first he’s responded to in ten years.
Police believe it was a mechanical issue that caused the accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
The 77-year-old driver of the bus has told the police that the vehicle’s brakes failed just before he tried to slow down to make a turn.
