Teenager Fatally Struck by School Bus

A 14-year-old girl is dead after being struck by a school bus outside of East High School in Youngstown, Ohio.

Details of the Fatal Pedestrian Accident

WKBN reports that East High School freshman was struck and killed by a school bus around 3 pm Wednesday.

Reports indicate the teen was part of a group of students walking from East High School. The teenagers were playing around when the girl stumbled into the road and was hit by the bus.

The school district confirmed that students were on the bus when the incident occurred and stated they would have a counseling team in place to meet with any students who need support. The bus driver will be entered into a counseling program as well.

The school district is working closely with area authorities as they try to determine how the accident happened. The bus has been impounded until the investigation is complete.

  • According to the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center, 4,743 pedestrians and 726 bicyclists were killed in traffic collisions in 2012.
  • Another 76,000 pedestrians reported injuries – roughly one injury every 7 minutes.
  • Males accounted for 69 percent of the pedestrians killed in 2012, and 73 percent of all pedestrian fatalities occurred in urban areas.
