Texas Boxer Arrested for Christmas Eve Accident

Joel Garcia has been arrested following a suspected drunk driving accident that left three people dead in El Paso on Christmas Eve.

Details of the Fatal Accident

According to the El Paso Times, 24-year-old boxer Joel Garcia ran a red light before colliding with a 2004 Pontiac at the intersection of Joe Battle Boulevard and Vista del Sol Drive around 1:45 am.

All three occupants of the Pontiac were killed in the collision – they have been identified as brothers Isaiah and Joshua Deal and Shannon Del Rio. Garcia and his passenger, Enrique Gaurin, 24, sustained minor injuries.

Garcia was booked on three intoxication manslaughter charges and is being held on a $300,000 bond. If convicted, Garcia faces up to 60 years in prison.

    • One person was killed in an auto accident every 2 hours and 36 minutes.
    • One person was injured in an auto accident every 2 hours and 16 minutes.
    • A reportable crash occurred every 71 seconds.
