Texas Drunk Driver Had 21 Drinks Before Collision Which Killed 2 Teens

The Daily News reports that Nicole Baukus, 24, of Conroe, Texas may face up to 60 years in prison as punishment for a head on collision she caused after drinking 17 shots and 4 beers at a local bar.

The collision resulted in the deaths of two teens and critical injuries to the diver of the other car.

About the Drunk Driving Accident

  • Prior to the accident, Nicole Baukus consumed 17 shots and 4 beers at On the Rox Sports Bar and Grill.
  • Security footage from the bar show that Baukus was drinking for about four hours and the shots were consumed from a tray that was delivered to her table – a violation of Texas law which states only two open alcoholic beverages may be served to an individual at a time.
  • Minutes after leaving the bar, Baukus drove against on coming traffic as she traveled the wrong way on Interstate 45, and collided with another car.
  • An hour after the accident, test showed Baukus’s BAC was at .286 – over three times the legal limit.
  • The accident occurred June 29, 2012.

Injuries and Charges Relating to the Drunk Driving Accident

  • Two teen passengers in the other vehicle died on impact: Nicole Adams, 19, and Travis Saunders, 18.
  • Driver David Porras, 21, was critically injured and is still recovering.
  • Nicole Baukus now faces two counts of second degree manslaughter and one count of intoxication manslaughter.
