Texas Senator Injured in Motorcycle Accident

KXAN reports Texas State Sen. Kel Seliger was injured and required surgery after a motorcycle accident in Austin.

About the Motorcycle Accident

The senator, who is chairman of the Senate Higher Education Committee, was injured Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.

Seliger suffered injuries to his elbow and ankle, but the details of his injuries and the accident have not been released.

Seliger was immediately taken to the hospital and had surgery, and is now expected to make a full recovery

  • According to the Texas Department of Transportation, there were 65,539 serious injury crashes in Texas in 2013 with 89,270 people sustaining a serious injury.
  • There were 495 motorcyclists (operators and passengers) killed in collisions in 2013. Fifty-three percent (53%) of motorcyclists killed were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
