Multiple sources are reporting that a trooper from the Texas Department of Public Safety was killed in a single-vehicle accident that happened late on Saturday. Media reports indicate that 27-year-old trooper Jeffrey Nichols was the victim in the accident.

According to police, the accident happened just before 11 p.m. when Officer Nichols was traveling westbound on FM 38 in Lamar County when he somehow lost control of his patrol vehicle and then collided with a tree.
