Third Fatality in SXSW Crash

There has been a third death from the fatal car crash that occurred in Austin, Texas last week.

Police say a car collided with a crowd of people gathered outside a club as part of the popular SXSW festival.

About the SXSW Crash

A report from CNN says that a third victim in the South by South West car crash passed away on Monday morning. Sandy Thuy Le, 26, was a resident of Pass Christian, Mississippi.

Police have identified the driver of the vehicle as Rashad Charjuan Owens, 21, who was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

Owens refused to stop for a police officer and ran into the crowd while attempting to flee. He has been charged with two counts of capital murder.

Overall, 23 people were hospitalized after Owens struck the crowd with his vehicle. A Travis County jury will decide if more counts should be brought against Owens for the third death.

  • In 2012, there were 89,256 DUI arrests in Texas.
