Three Children Critically Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash Near Ocala

Three children were critically injured in a multi-vehicle wreck on I-75 Sunday evening, as reported by Click Orlando.

Details of the Ocala Crash

  • The accident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on I-75 at mile marker 345 near Ocala, FL.
  • A Nissan Altima driven by Christeia T. Jones, 28, struck a Florida Highway Patrol cruiser before hitting two other vehicles and burst into flames.
  • Just prior to the crash, the FHP cruiser, driven by Trooper Raul J. Umana, 20, was traveling north on I-75 and had attempted a U-turn but struck the median. The cruiser was then deflected into the southbound lanes.

Three children were in the Altima ages two, five, and seven and sustained critical injuries. The children were airlifted to UF Health Shands. Jones also suffered serious injuries in the crash.

The drivers of the other vehicles involved in the crash, a Mercedes and a tractor-trailer, were treated for minor injuries.

  • Of those crashes, 2,225 were fatal and resulted in 2,430 deaths.
