According to The Exponent Telegram in West Union, three people have been injured and two lanes of traffic were closed on U.S. 50 on Monday after a dump truck and a garbage truck collided.

Details about the Dump Truck Collision

At around noon, the driver of the dump truck was headed west on U.S. 50 when he ran a red light and crashed in to a Waste Management truck pulling into the intersection from W.Va. 18, according to Doddridge Sheriff Mike Headley.

Both of the drivers and a passenger in the garbage truck were taken to United Hospital Center by the ambulance with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

While the drivers escaped without any major harm, the vehicles were badly damaged. The garbage truck cabin was separated from the body of the vehicle and landed about 15 feet away. The dump truck that was involved in the accident was also damage, and much of load of large stones was spilled out onto the highway.

Emergency crews from Greenwood, Smithburg, and West Union responded to the scene of the accident.
