Three Hurt in Tractor-Trailer Accident in Cleveland, Texas

Authorities in Cleveland, Texas say a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer and SUV on Monday has left three people injured.

About the Cleveland Tractor-Trailer Crash

According to the Cleveland Advocate, the collision happened on July 7 at approximately 5:49 p.m. on the 19000 block of FM 787 just east of CR 2206. A witness reported that a Honda SUV traveling west on FM 787 drifted into the oncoming path of a Peterbuilt tractor-trailer.

Three occupants of the Honda sustained injuries in the wreck. A 20-year-old driver and an 11-year-old passenger in the backseat had to be life flighted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. A third passenger, a 14-year-old riding in the front seat, was taken by ambulance to the Cleveland Regional Medical Center and later released.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured in the crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) classifies large trucks as those with a gross vehicle weight rating greater than 10,000 pounds. In the U.S. in 2012, approximately 3,921 people were killed in crashes involving large trucks. An additional 104,000 people were injured in crashes involving large trucks that year. Sadly, the number of fatalities in large truck accidents rose by 4 percent between 2011 and 2012. Even more tragic, large truck accidents increased by 18 percent in the same time span.
