Katie Chapman3 years ago

According to KBTX, a family of three was injured Wednesday afternoon after a multi-vehicle accident in Grimes County.

About the Grimes County Accident

Two grandparents and their granddaughter were traveling on Highway 30 and FM 22 in Carlos when their Ford Explorer collided with an 18-wheeler carrying a mobile home.

All three were injured. The young girl, who was in a booster seat, was air-lifted to Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston for leg injuries. The young girl’s grandparents were taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan by ambulance.

According to investigators and Sergeant Alese Wilson of the Department of Public Safety, the semi hit the side of the Explorer sending it into a pickup after the Explorer failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection.

The names and conditions of the family members injured have not been released by the Department of Public Safety.

Multiple Accidents Recorded at Intersection

  • The accident is among the latest of serious accidents at the intersection in the last several years.
  • A fatal accident occurred at the same intersection on New Year’s Eve after a husband and wife pulled in front of a truck and were broadsided, killing the husband.
  • Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has been prompted to act after nine serious accidents were reported at the intersection since 2009.
  • Changes have already been made to the intersection including caution lights and a lower speed limit.
  • TxDOT is scheduled to begin construction on an overpass that will carry FM 244 over Highway 30 in 2015.
